Aaron Rinn
Biography
Team role: Workhorse and embedded photographer
Profession: Mechanical engineer
Currently resides: Seattle, WA
Hometown: Ann Arbor, MI
Year joined DART: 2005
Aaron started racing mountain bikes in 1998, and fell in love with endurance athletic competition. He tried out a sprint adventure race two years later, because it gave him the chance to branch out into running. His races kept getting longer and longer, and eventually he leaned to enjoy kayaking. In 2003 his team Saga took third in the 2003 Cal Eco Adventure Racing series behind Earthlink (now Merrell/Zanfel ) and Epinephrine (now Sole). Aaron moved to Seattle during the middle of the following year and met the DART-nuun team at a local TRIOBA race. Glenn asked him to race a 24-hour Explore the West adventure race in early 2005. This went well, so later that year Cyril asked him to the Ecomotion 2005 staged in Serra Gaúcha of Southern Brazil. This idea seemed fantastic to Aaron, so without missing a beat he answered with one word, "Yes!" He was half kidding with Cyril about how fast he answered the question. This turned out to be Aaron's favorite race, and solidified his love for the sport. At 34, Aaron hopes to keep racing fresh and fast with DART for another 5 more years.

Behind The Scene
Favorite race: EcoMotion/Pro expedition adventure race - Brazil is a stunning and amazing country.
Worst race moment: It's a tie between getting stuck in a hole while riverboarding the swollen Gallatin River during Primal Quest Montana and capsizing in huge Pacific seas miles from shore during the Baja Travesia 2007 kayaking leg.
Best race moment: Getting to shore after either of the above. Climing the dune at Jericoacoara in 6th place.
Favorite racing food: Sharkies, any kind of burritos, salty peanuts, soup.
Why I race: Racing is a lifestyle. It gives a purpose to my training. The races themselves are about immersing yourself in nature, working through difficulty as a team, covering a large amount of ground, and challenging yourself both physically and mentally.
Race advice: Get yourself to a race and give it a shot. As the race gets challenging, reach beyond yourself and help your teammates. If you feel like throwing up, force yourself to eat something, drink, and take electrolytes.
Vice in life: Black coffee.
Greatest challenge: Keeping a clean and smooth running bike.
Greatest strength: Being able to sleep anywhere at any time.
Least favorite part of adventure racing: Fighting sleep monsters.
What do I do with my free time: Hang gliding and mountaineering are my other big passions.
