Sean Clancy
Biography
Team role: TerminatorProfession: Endurance Coach, Management Consultant
Currently resides: Santa Barbara, CA
Hometown: Long Beach, IN; Vero Beach, FL
Year joined DART: 2006
First Year Adventure Racing: 1997
Sean came to the sport of Adventure Racing from the military world and with a teenage triathlon background. Sean competed in his first Adventure Race in 1997, at the 12 hour "Dusk 2 Dawn", while serving in the US Navy in Hawai'i. After competing in triathlon, duathlon and running races since age 14, Sean was introduced to Adventure Racing in 1995 while watching coverage of the Eco Challenge on television and reading about the Raid Gauloises.
The rest is history! A life of adventure and so-called "impossible" team challenges in the world's harshest - and often most beautiful - environments. To steal a motto from his adventure racing "sensei" David Kelly, it's about doing "cool things with cool people in cool places".
Since 1997, Sean has competed in Adventure Races ranging from 12 hours to 6 days long in places like Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Mexico and all over the USA...
From 2006 to 2008 Sean won NINE adventure races in a row with Team DART-nuun.
Sean also competes in ultra-endurance mountain bike racing, road cycling, paddling, ultramarathons, practical pistol shooting/biathlon & occasional Ironman triathlons.
2011 is Sean's 15th year of adventure racing!
Sean keeps a blog at www.clancymultisport.blogspot.com to keep his teammates, friends & sponsors abreast of his training and racing.

Behind The Scene
Favorite race: Back in 2000 at the 270 mile Odyssey Mega Dose, only one team finished the course (my team!), and Don Mann & his staff were at the finish line, jumping around, freaking out and celebrating.
Best race moment: Surviving-and crossing the finish line in 1st Place-at the 2008 Baja Travesia after enduring a nasty respiratory tract infection before and during the race. Racing while sick is no fun!
Worst race moment: Losing a fellow competitor to a tragic rockfall accident in Primal Quest 2004
Favorite food: Breakfast Burritos with Egg, Avocado, cheese, salsa, and potatoes.
Why I race: To recalibrate my limits. To do the impossible. To deepen my pain groove.
T.S. Eliot: "Only those who risk going too far can possibly know how far they can go"
Race advice: Hard times don't last... Hard men do. "We are strengthened by life's harsh moments...especially those of our own choosing"
Vice(s) in life: Don't know if Id' call it a VICE, per se, but I do like West Coast IPA or Pinot Noir.
Greatest challenge: Time Management. Squeezing 20 hour training weeks into my busy life.
What do I do with my free time? Besides train? Read, travel, surf, climb, shoot, & mixed martial arts.
My teammates think that: I live on Vitargo S2
