Like many others, Sean Clancy came to the sport of Adventure Racing from the triathlon and military world. Sean competed in his first Adventure Race in 1997, "Dusk2Dawn" while serving in the US Navy in Hawai'i. After competing in triathlon, duathlon and various running races since age 14, Sean was introduced to Adventure Racing in 1995 while watching coverage of the Eco Challenge on television. From that point on, he knew what he wanted to do with his life. A life of adventure and nearly impossible team challenges with like-minded friends in the world's harshest environments.
Sean was very fortunate to get a jump-start on his adventure racing career by serendipitously joining a world class team in 1998, for a 48 hour race in Arizona. This team included a German Team Eco Internet member, (today's Team NIKE) who was a current world Quadrathlon champion and world record-holder in 24 hour kayak paddling, another racer who was the British Orienteering/ROGAINE champion, and a recently retired Army Delta Force operator fresh off the Southern Traverse in New Zealand. Needless to say, Sean soaked up as much "secret" training and racing knowledge as possible during that weekend!
The rest is history.
Currently, Sean has won 9 adventure races in a row with Team DART-nuun.
Sean also competes in ultra-endurance mountain bike racing, ultramarathon runs, & Ironman triathlons.
Dubious achievement: 2009 will be Sean's 13th year of adventure racing!
Sean keeps a blog at www.clancymultisport.blogspot.comto keep his teammates, friends & sponsors abreast of his training and racing.

Behind The Scene
Favorite race: In 2000 at the 270 mile Odyssey Mega Dose, only one team finished the course (my team!), and Don Mann & his staff were at the finish line, jumping
around, freaking out and celebrating. That made 88 hours of delirious suffering all worth it!
Best race moment: Surviving-and crossing the finish line in 1st Place-at the 2008 Baja Travesia after being very sick before and during the race.
Worst race moment: Losing a fellow competitor to a tragic rockfall accident in Primal Quest 2004
Favorite food: Breakfast Burritos with Egg, Avocado, cheese, salsa, and potatoes.
Why I race: 1) To test my limits; 2) To Crush Dreams; 3) To "Deepen my Pain Groove"
T.S. Eliot: "Only those who risk going too far can possibly know how far they can go"
Race advice: Have a warrior mindset: The more you sweat in training the less you bleed in battle....
Hard times don't last... Hard men do.
Vice(s) in life: Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pinot Noir, Stella Artois & sleeping in.
Greatest challenge: Limiting Chocolate Chip Cookie intake during the taper period.
What do I do with my free time? Luckily, I enjoy training 20-25 hours per week.
