The last race of the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Racing (MOMAR) series took place this past Saturday (Sept 27th) in Cumberland, BC. The team consisted of Jen Segger, Ryan Van Gorder, Norm Hann and Tom Roozandal who, stepped in only minutes before the gun went off to fill in for an ill Jen Van Gorder. Despite the late night driving just to make it to the start line, the team managed a 1st place victory in the team of 4 co-ed division and an impressive 5th place overall finish.

The race began on beautiful Comox Lake with a 9.5km paddle followed by a 30min rogaine section on foot. DART nuun was 3rd overall off the run as they transitioned quickly to their bikes and set off to chase down a 2 person male team and a solo racer. The mountain biking was the highlight of the race. Ryan was quick to note afterwards that this was the best single track that he had ever ridden in a sprint race! After a good solid climb on logging roads, the rest of the 25km bike section was essentially all single track on some of the trails that has put Cumberland on the map as a top mountain biking destination.
Three quarters of the way through the bike course, the team transitioned back into their running shoes for the 2nd trekking section of the race. After 1hr31min of running, it was back to more epic single track riding on trails that would take them into downtown Cumberland and a short 1km rogaine section on foot to the finish line.
“The team had a great race together, despite the last minute change to the roster. Our Turner bikes were a treat to ride through the amazing trails and it was fantastic that some of my other DART team mates were able to make the trip across the border for a race here in Canada” reflected Jen.
